On Firefox 128 on Windows 10 and I don’t get that. Opened a video in a new tab without swapping to it and it loaded fully in a typical amount of time.

I like the idea of this (and it’s been in stable for over a month) but in practice I never use it. It leaves way too many things in.

One easy example is discord images. Go to discord, find an image you or someone else posted, and open it in firefox. After the extension they add a bunch of extra stuff on. Firefox will leave it all on even if you select “Copy without site tracking”, while you can easily just manually copy up to the extension and no further.

I get that they have to strike a balance between removing parts of the link and preserving functionality, and that they can’t always know what extra data in the link is being used for - but I think that just means this is something that’ll always be better done manually.

Was it even still around? I can think of a few times in the past few months where I’ve tried to find the cached link to a google result and failed. Most recently just two days ago, when a site I wanted to use was down for maintenance.

I saw the Youtube banner telling me it detected an ad blocker and wouldn’t let me watch a lot for about a week. Now it’s been over two months with nothing but smooth sailing on μBlock Origin. I’m even back to being able to block Shorts from appearing on my sub feed, where before it seemed like any YT-specific filters would let them detect the blocker.

Some things that made me happy this year:

• My best friend has some issues that occasionally make interacting with them difficult. This year I got a lot better at handling those moments in a more graceful way, which has led to less stress for (hopefully) both of us.
• I got a lot better at handling my time in a productive way this year.
• I made a lot of big steps toward significantly changing my work situation in a way that I’m hopeful will turn out for the better.

And some games I enjoyed playing this year include Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pico Park with my niece, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Crash Bandicoot 2 (From the trilogy game), Super Mario Wonder, Stray, and Manifold. I 100%'d all of those except Zelda and Manifold (Which I’m still playing).

Hard call for me between Horizon Zero Dawn and either Spider-Man game since I’ve had both on my radar for a while, but I’ll go in for Spider-Man Remastered 🕷🕸 Happy Holidays ♡

I opened amazon in incognito then clicked on a random item from their front page, which was advertising their cyber monday deals at the time. In that case would it just be letting amazon know that that’s how I ended up on that page, without serving any other real purpose?

I get the same when I copy from my comment - I guess it only works reliably from the address bar? Or maybe only if you’re on the correct site?

What do the parts it left on do? The encoding is innocuous enough but I don’t know what it’s doing with ref or th. I usually sanitize links myself and I’d have brought that one down to either

, depending on how much I cared at the time. I kind of expected firefox to bring it down to the first version.

μBlock Origin works for me still (Firefox), but I had to remove my custom filter to remove Shorts from the Subscription page - seems like they can detect it if I have any YT-specific rules.

I’ve got FreeTube set up as a backup in case μBlock does ever fail - but its lack of tabs really make me not want to use it as my primary access yet. I think they could benefit a lot from creating a browser-based UI, kind of like what Plex has.

That’s not even always the issue though - like recently Veritasium had an ancient video demonitized for mentioning that the subject of the video committed suicide, so now their most recent video is a censored re-upload of it. They include a new segment talking about the frustrating demonitization scheme Youtube has.

Whatever happened with that anyways? The last update I ever remember reading was Musk saying he’d show up at Zuckerberg’s front door “tomorrow” demanding to fight.

I mean, I can guess what ended up happening (or not happening) - but was that it? No show, no reason, no follow-up? Is he even keeping up the pretense of being serious anymore?

Only thing they missed was a popup asking me to please not leave if I move my mouse near the top edge of the tab.

My passwords use the full set of characters I can type by hand on a standard US qwerty keyboard, and I’ve only run into a few sites that have complained and made me use something simpler. PayPal is one of them. Some of the others are Zenni Optical, eBay, and FedLoan.

In total that’s about 8% of my accounts. So the vast majority of sites seem to let you use whatever, at least. I only use 15 characters so I have no comments on length. I am equally annoyed when a new site makes me use simpler passwords.
