Signal just somehow forgets to store your IP address. So, their response will be “here are our logs, that phone number last time logged in yesterday, that’s all we got”
The holy spirit help you with your servers that run on windows.
I’d also suppose this update won’t affect you, cuz you’re hopefully not running latest win11 on a server.
Opposite in the EU. Most banks won’t even give you an option for a dispute. Or it will be awfully convoluted.
PayPal? Best dispute system ever. Saved me from online purchase scams countless times.
Same. Not GDPR compliant, that’s for sure.
That’s disgusting! Where do those criminals gather, so I could go an express my utter disappointment to them directly?
Victims?! You’re using someone’s infrastructure, very expensive programmer talent, countless content creators dedication; you’re using all of it for free, and you’re the victim when the other party tries to enforce a payment?
People like you is why communism will never become a reality.
YouTube has a transparent 70/30 revenue share model for creators.
Your entire premium subscription fee is split into 70 to creators and 30 to google.
The 70 are forwarded to the creators in proportion to the watch time.
in fact it’s incorrect that “the more you watch, the more they earn”. You can only watch two videos in one month and each of the creators will earn the respective 4$
Then delete the YouTube app and go to the nebula. It’s a free country.
They’ll have to be taught a hard lesson. But realistically family was overly generous with a lot of folks essentially paying 2$/m for premium. You can definitely double this amount without many of them bothering to pirate.
Or people actually earn enough not to give two flying fucks about 10$ a month and want to support their content creators and the platform that enables them.
unpopular opinion: you can pay for premium and use Vanced/ReVanced because you value hosting infrastructure provided, and you understand that most of your money goes to the creators not google. And yet you still want control over the UI.
And you know what. If everyone actually did that instead of using Vanced for adblocking, it maybe still would’ve been alive.
The unfortunate business model of the current tech world.
And the only way to teach them to drop this BS is to migrate to a better thing as soon as the enshitification starts.
I would’ve told you we shouldn’t have fallen into this trap to begin with, but that implies cooperation of the entire internet. And that ain’t happening.
On the other hand, we can accept that this is how things are. We get years of free trial and pay for it in the next years. 13$/month is not an insane amount of money for the value provided. And it’s shared with creators in a transparent manner, so it’s not like they’re hording all of it either.
I never understood, and never will understand this.
Even when I was a poor teenager and pirated essentially everything I always knew that this content only exists because someone is paying for it.
How do people go around feeling like the best VoD platform to ever exist, available on every device imaginable, optimized for years by best software engineers the world has, should be free, and without ads is beyond me.
This, my friends, is a classic lemmy argument: “how about someone whom I already don’t pay anything go and do more work for less pay, so I can enjoy my content free, without ads, and don’t need to bother with an AdBlock”.
How about, you, anon, set up a server, provide a simple upload API, and convince your favorite content creator to upload there? Since it’s no costs for them and very little work, they might. Maintain that for a year, then we’ll talk.
This market domination is non-discriminatory. It’s not like you go to your local car dealerships and they don’t sell you any other brand than GM. Everyone on the internet is free to go and use any other service. It’s dominant because users are happy with their ads or subscription fees instead of investing their time into using a competing product.
It’s their private website, they do on it whatever they want. Right, lemmy?
You can run your own federated streaming service that will have no ads and will be free of charge, yeah?
The other day someone on lemmy kept trying to tell me that if google wanted to shut down ad blocking they would. But they don’t, so it’s ok.
Lol, spawn me that person plz.
Unpopular opinion: sub to a plex/emby server. All your favorite shows on one platform, probably in 4k too, works on all devices, you never need to think ahead about torrenting something. Mine is 10$/month.
