Also it does exist but implementation is defined by the program which usually is only set up for the windows implementation. So you can wine the windows version of the program if you want it. I’m sure proton will figure something out soon.

Some games support it on windows but not Linux. The list is small. That said, windows HDR support is garbage ime. I don’t feel like there’s a good option that’s set and forget in any case.

Plasma/wayland integration is coming along but it’s not there yet for HDR in gaming.

You don’t need to be a nerd. Just need to watch a vid or follow ubiquitous guide on how to partition a disk or install second disk. Installing and running Linux is easier than windows these days with most common distros.

The learning curve is easier than the one for each windows update too. At least for plasma, i would assume gnome too.

Still, some enterprise class software only running on windows is a reasonable excuse(for the user). Also not everyone has the drive space or can afford extra hardware. Obligatory privilege check ig.

I die every workday when I have to boot in windows because our CAD doesn’t work on Linux. On the other hand it makes switching back to plasma at the end of work feel as sweet as day 1! I don’t feel like I’ll ever take it for granted.

Syncthing has worked well for me between 3 devices(Linux, android, windows). I’ve had one conflict in 6mo and it was easy to identify the right copy to select in keepass’ prompt since the more recent one was a larger file.

Synchthing also provides optional version control which makes backing up easy.

Biggest problem is that generic production stuff too often models bad sex, a cartoon version of sex that’s not healthy or pleasurable for anyone, let alone unsafe.

It would also exclude a lot of people who either don’t have that ID or don’t have access to it. Then there’s the whole question if whether you want the government to know what media you’re interacting with. For legal reasons the social media company would need to keep evidence on file of your identification, if not report it. Keeping is regardless of whether it’s part of that law, CYA and all.

But where you used to be able to purchase physical media it’s practically impossible now. Even physical cases of games or audio-visual are usually just packaging for an access key to stream it. It sucks that we have to rely on market force through user-based action (e.g. Helldivers vs sony). These forces simply don’t work against market caps like Microsoft or practically any commercial software (cad, sim, business management) or media service (streaming, music, etc…) where companies can leverage nigh infinite debt to overcome the user base action in favor of market growth.

This has been forced on people on many platforms. Blizzard and WC3 was given as an example by OP. Microsoft is probably the most flagrant example as many people need to use windows for various software, and you need to rip the system apart to kill forced updates or shutdown invasive services.
