This is why I teach my kids to lie they are grown ups on the internet. Fuck big tech deciding what is and isn’t appropriate for my kids, with no way to override it as a parent. Their legal department CYA policies interest do not align with my and my kids’ interest.
Moreover, they’re fighting the previous war. The real needs of me and my children to be safe online, aren’t about porn and swearing. It’s about death threats and doxxing, about scammers trying to get your passwords. Here’s the thing: That has NOTHING to do with being a minor. EVERYONE needs those protections. Big tech is intentionally focusing attention on children so they can keep getting away with spending zero dollars on stopping bad actors
Everyone here saying their ice cream sucks and they never buy it, I don’t think you realize Magnum and Cornetto are this brand. Those are the world’s best selling ice cream brands
Accepted isn’t the right word. I think consumers “voting with their feet” just isn’t that relevant when it comes to these issues. This model of thinking works when it’s about the product offering. Bad product? Too expensive? Demand dwindles.
But the issue doesn’t directly impact the product offering, consumers won’t “vote with their feet” in significant numbers. Worker exploitation? People will still buy cheaper clothes. Oil money dictatorships? Cheap luxury airlines. Privacy invasion? But all my friends are on there. I could go on.
The self-correcting market model is flawed. For these issues, strong government intervention is needed. It’s possible that a competitor comes along and they’re able to capture the market, but that will only happen with a superior product offering. But not because of different TOS or whatever people don’t consider part of what they’re buying.

AI is a crapshoot, agree. But there has to be more testing before PR disasters like this happen. That isn’t “being my suppliers beta test”, rather sensible project managers not mindlessly putting it out there because the supplier said it worked. Now people are laughing at McDonald’s on top of their cost saving operations being delayed. But I agree overall that AI sucks to replace humans. I’m just criticizing McDonald’s jumping the gun
Here’s what you do: You have the AI take the order, but the human checks each item. They’ll have enough time to work out the kinks
Good for sticking to something you believe in. Highly underrated quality in engineers. “Take the money and run like a thief” is such a bullshit attitude
ITT people quoting US law as a universal ethical standard
Get outta here with your “no expectation of privacy in public”, that’s a legal concept and has nothing to do with the question. Moreover, that’s only the law in the US, not everywhere
Those medical professionals disagree
Can I read the full article without yet another goddamn account?

Autonomous my ass. Is a person remote controlling it from a low wage county?
Even worse when you realize it’s the job of these journalists to tell people there’s a whole world out there. The general public may not know about this, but if you’re a journalist making these claims, they should know better
Imagine putting anarchism, socialism and Marxism-Leninism all in the same basket
Suffering can be alleviated but not eliminated. I talk about oppression, which is domination of one group over another, with violence. This happens in fascism but historically also with (ML) communism. I’m saying that using the power of the state to FORCE people to change their ways, will be counterproductive. I’m on board with degrowth, but something positive must replace the consumerism.
The miscommunication is your misunderstanding of the word oppression in relation to ML. I’m talking about a specific problem with the ML “solution” to climate change. I don’t have all the answers, but I know ML only makes things worse for everyone.
As long as you realize oppression will only make it harder, not easier, to counter a crisis of human selfishness.
What we need is a culture shift, not oppression. I refuse to believe mankind is not capable of improving their collective behavior except under threat of violence - In fact, I think such violence would be counterproductive if the goal is to live in harmony with planetary limits. Degrowth cannot be imposed. Society must want it. Stop being mindless consumers. We can’t make that happen by the barrel of a gun. Peace must be included
