My advice is never use a smart tv of any kind.

Use a third party device like an apple tv or roku, hell even a bluray player with apps on it.

Then get what ever TV you like and never let it see the internet.

I personally like Visio, but any mid grade display is fine.

The pace of change is about every five years, and some elements are always in transition.

All in one turn key solutions are always one to two cycles behind, so may work great with the stuff I’m already replacing.

I think these are honest attempts to simplify, but by the time they have it sorted its obsolete. If I have to build modules anyway to work with new equipemnt, might as well just write all the code in my native language.

These also tend to be attempts at all in one devices, requiring you to use devices only compatible with those subsystems. I want to be able to use best tech from what ever manufacturer. New and fancy almost always means a command line interface, which again means coding.

20 years ago at a trade show, a new module based visual coding tool was introduced in my field which claimed “You’ll never need another programmer”.

Oddly enough, I still have a job.

The tools have gotten better, but I still write code every day because procedural programming is still the best way to do things.

It is just now reaching the point that we can do some small to medium scale projects with plug and play systems, but only with very specific equipment and configurations.

Home office has a single ultra wide plus my laptop screen under it. Work on the big screen, YouTube and teams on the laptop.

At work I have an ultra wide with a 16:9 portrait display (turned 90 degrees) on the side. That leaves the big space for work, and the side one for teams, YouTube, and any documents I have to reference.

First time using a portrait display, and it is so much nicer for reading PDFs and the like.

I hit a wall at trig. Far as I got in math, and I’ve been a programmer for over half my career.

Have always wanted to go back and learn trig and calc, but have never had the chance. Probably at this point would do better just to sit down w a text book and teach myself.

Ubisoft made splinter cell, farcry 2, ghost recon, and rocksmith. They did a lot of good things over the years. Problem is, they’ve changed.

I use 3.5 stereo as an rs232 connector all the time. A poe ethernet to serial would be a huge help to me.

That unfortunately is going to be app dependent as far as I know. Your phone can set if a given app will alert you, but for example facebook would have to filter which friend’s notifications get sent.

An app that let you manage notifications by user across multiple platforms would be amazing.

In a documentary made during the 2016 election cycle Trump talks about how much better his PR team is because he doesn’t have to use traditional channels to reach his base, he can just tweet it when ever he wants to tell the world something.

He was very much using twitter as a primary communication channel from the begining, and this time around, he has both twitter and truth social as his basically his own.

It’s not so much a function of try, and yes, I’ve used it. It’s the fact that during lock down the whole company used Zoom and Teams, and changing systems now would take an act of God far above my paygrade.

Historically, Tandberg, later acquired by Cisco, was hands down the best video conference codec. I have no doubt their new line is just as good.

I can try forwarding this info to network security and see what they think.

Went to Infocomm this year, the audio / video trade show, to get the lay of the land on next generation conference systems.

The two main elements at almost every booth were zoom and teams. Those two platforms have completely replaced IP based conferencing, and when the tide turns like this, no matter how bad the idea, we’re stuck with it for five to ten years.

On both the hardware and software level, there just isn’t an alternative for corporate scale conferencing.

I may be able to make the argument against zoom for privacy reasons, but I suspect teams isn’t going to be any better.

Technology has advanced more in my lifetime than in the prior thousand years, we are very much in the middle of the greatest revolution in tech ever.

The fact people are often so jaded about it amazes me.

The trick for me is having a dedicated home office. I wake up, shower, dress in work clothes, and “go to the office”.

Only things in there are my work desk, and some excercise equipment.

The company is currently hybrid, with a couple days required in office every week. From everything I’ve heard, productivity is up, and there is no talk from management that we’re changing things.

A couple days ago, but I have a company issued remote managed windows laptop, and I get zero say in the matter.

At least once a month my system forces me to do a reboot for updates.

I can tell it to wait, but I can not tell it to stop.
