That is cultural. It’s poison you take to change your mind state and small enough amounts are usually tolerable enough to not cause too much of a problem. I have a drink from time to time but to say otherwise is incorrect.

That said, I’m not sure where I said that it was.

  • The free breakfast is different, though. You’ve introduced it to the conversation and are leaning into it but it’s different than the post to which you made your original comment. The free lunch is not, unlike the vitamin water, a replacement for significant monetary compensation.

And no one has even said whether or not the person who took the picture took them or not, nor whether they would themselves. They are made because they’ve been, essentially, stolen from in broad daylight and are expected to be grateful for it.

Yea, I’m not that desperate, though. These worthless acts should be openly mocked for exactly what they are: management’s idea that we are stupid enough to actually be fooled by that shit.

It would be far more worth it to me to take the bottles and return them than give them any satisfaction and/or validation. They are worth so little to me that I don’t mind throwing them back and management should know that. These aren’t “treats”, they’re cheap replacements for significant moneyary compensation.

Free breakfast is certainly a little bigger than this, but it still doesn’t actually do anything to help anyone. It’s just another thing they can point to to pretend like they care while ignoring the only thing that will ever truly matter which is that they need to fucking pay us. I’ve had bosses before that pull that shit and then you ask for a raise that at least matches inflation and they try to tell you that “inflation doesn’t work that way.”

So if we’re talking “mindsets” I really don’t have much time for people that think shit like vitamin water instead of a bonus is a “treat” we need to be grateful for. I never did like the taste of boot.

  • I’m sorry, bud, that sounds awful.

I’m in the middle of my third month unemployed now. Sent out a bunch of applications and had some HR interviews but man, no one wants to pay even what I was previously making let along anything liveable.

One place was a referral and they liked me a lot but, only slightly paraphrased, “didn’t want to start our partnership on the wrong foot by offering too low a salary”. Like bro you’ve already insulted me just give me the fucking offer and let me decide. Another place got to the second interview and it all went great and then I was ghosted and no one answered my follow-up email.

Every job I see wants me to work on-site 2hrs away from the city in some small town for pennies. And that’s only if I’m lucky enough to see the salary! The rest hide them so people who are more desperate than I am low-ball themselves in order to not scare away potential jobs. It’s so completely fucked up.

Not a single damn company will even acknowledge that inflation is real so I cannot afford to take lower pay just to watch it get worse every single year. The answer to every single one of our fucking problems all the way down to toxic masculinity I feel can definitely or at least probably be answered by PAYING EMPLOYEES PROPERLY SO THEY AREN’T CONSTANTLY IN FIGHT MODE. I see things like “how to increase the productivity of your workforce!” and just think pay them and give them the basic respect they deserve as living, breathing human beings and they’ll happily do a lot for you.

Companies are entitled. They clearly can’t afford to exist if they can’t pay their employees but instead of shutting down with grace they tell us it’s our fault. It’s fucking insane.

I dunno, if they used maple deep-browned beans and we knew they were in there before hand that could be really good, I think. Surprise plain beans might make me immediately eject the contents of my stomach, on contact, just to make sure that nothing could make it down there.

And there are millions of people who’s homes have been irrevocably changed for the worse by a warming planet. Even those further north are being impacted as they experience floods in some places, droughts in others, and more extreme weather in general.

I don’t give a shit about the mushrooms.

  • The fucked thing is that it wouldn’t be such a huge deal but they all want to make money on the current number of customers instead of their potential. People are poorer and poorer and have to choose maybe one or two services at a time at the prices they are.

They would rather get one customer for $15/mo than 4 or 5 customers for $5/mo. And they together created an environment where it’s hard for any one of them to make the first move. Healthy competition only really works when people act in good faith and none of these people are capable of that even when it benefits them.

Business people are truly dumbest creatures on this planet. “What if we make them poor and then charge them a bunch of money? That makes sense, right? And if they get upset we tell them it’s their fault.”

I think it’s funny, and a great joke in that we don’t say “neopolitan” very often so I could 1,000% see someone call it “Napoliatin” ice cream or something. There’s still a layer of “truth” to make the joke quality. It’s a shitpost with layers.
