Nah, probably not. All routers you can buy today will route and by default have their firewall active. Make sure, auto-updates are activated on your router.
Check your server OS’ses and the Software running on them for updates on a regular basis - since they are partially made available to the public and are potential attack vectors.
Though if you only port-forwarded a couple ports that dont include the RDP port or something wildly stupid, you should be safe.
Follow some best practises as:
Don’t let yourself fool by the guys telling ya to setup a full fledged firewall system when you obviously don’t even know basic networking. You would be overwhelmed by the configurationpossibilities.
If you want to dangle your foot in some cold water - try em out and put some machines behind them to learn what behaves how. But dont make em your only protection against the public internet when you don’t know basic networking stuff.
Happy Sailin’ matey!
Jesus. The worst thing about this is that one might actually believe it for a short time. I did for a glance of a moment before recognising that this had to be satire. Something good: satire is nod dead yet :D
So many different quote usage patterns.
One person gets to get quoted. But OP themself not. Also at the second sentence of the other dude gets startet end ends with different quote marks.
This post is killing my inner monk.
Just checking in to say thanks for asking that question. Always had that same question as a fellow sysadmin :D
Now since i see all those ideas: hell yes. I will reach out to the maintainers of the next project that I find that could use some support and offer them my support :D
Could you install a basic secondary graphics card and fully forward it to the VM? That should make you capable of using its HDMI Ports - and this way you should also have no HDMI DRM Bullshit errors from apps like Netflix and Disney.
Nah you dont need a special image for the touchscreen and stuff. Check the advanced update settings for optional downloads and also give the surface app in the microsoft store a shot. It actually is not terrible for troubleshooting.
Other than that: Create your own custom image if you deeply wish to. Here is the help doc:
I guess the best way for that, is to crosscheck with the maiantained list on the megathread of this community.
Thx! Subbed to all of 'em!
Good intention, to let us know about the strategy. But i would guess everybody knows the strategy since most of us are working in IT. Hence the downvotes.
But tbh. everyone should hear about it. No backup? No sympathy. (Kein Backup? Kein Mitleid)
Happy, that you found my comment :D
I’ve also searched for such a solution for a longggg time. When i finally found it though… holy moly i was happy about that
You could also go the route of directly downloading from spotify with Zotify.
If you got premium it downloads in full 320kps. (Make sure to use the --download-real-time=True
toggle to raise no suspicion for spotify servers. This way you download as fast as if you were listening to the songs/audiobooks yourself.
Its a command line tool. Though if it can remove possible DRM Watermarks from the audiostream - no clue. But i wouldnt think they actually do that.
I guess the following are the modt liked:

Maybe even windows remote help tool if you got a AD with microsoft accounts. (For fat clients - thinclients mostly have VNC or you could at least look at what they do by opening their RDP session)
I don’t know where else you could look but the common E-Book & Audiobook places. So far many Books were not listed in the usual piracy sites. I had to search explicitly for the only Book/Comic/Audio Book related ones.
These sites however have TONS of Material in all kinds of categories. So even if there wouldnt be a “Artbook” Filter, if you look for a reocurring comic, make use of the reocurring name and hit the search with it.
You may have to check what are the best sites for your language though.
Only on the second read I actually recognised that there was in fact no T in the Text ^^
Warm hard fact. Its heartwarming to know we all wish for the samecomfy place
I guess OBS? Works on Windows if you use the webbrowser and disable Hardware Acceleration. Be advised though, the resolution and bitrate on browsers alone could be limited and also on linux clients.
I think the best way is still to rely on already ripped content. Though if you want to start creating webrips yourself, afaik people use their cookies and use the streams, that the browsers/applications get pushed and turn them into other video formats. But not at all a pro on this topic. Someone else here is surely better informed than me on this topic.
You were ready for reading the manual. Darn good that you’ve made it without passing that line. Once you pass it you never come back to being sane again, you know?
:D
Holy moly Networking Class… I’m getting flashbacks to my time when in the Simulated Cisco Environment we tried the SPT out and yes you are right. It takes a short but nonetheless weird amount of time for it to timeout.
Thanks for giving me the updates. If I or somebody else ever has similar symptoms maybe they will find this thread :D
I gotta say I think I would never had targeted SPT as the culprit. Though to be fair I only use dumb switches in my homelab and at the corp, the Networking department gatekeeps the nice stuff a bit :3
Anyway, I’m happy you found out and were able to fix it. <3
I would guess, a monitoring system like CheckMK or Icinga?
You could check what has been alarming even if the check is green again, by the time you look into it.
