As an Xbox owner since the OG in the early 2000s, I’d almost suggest against an Xbox One / Series controller too. I know the Xbox One is fairly old now, but it’s the first one I had to get a new controller for due to stick drift. Original controller that came with it has the right stick set to full sky mode, completely unusable. The replacement has right stick drift as well, only slightly to the left at the moment. Manageable, but annoying. I would almost suggest a wired 360 controller (if you can find one these days). I’m an adult gamer, only user, and not hard on controllers, but maybe I’ve just had bad luck with my controllers.

Yep. That was my first thought - how everyone says to use Matrix rather than Lemmy DMs for anything sensitive. This will be fantastic.

Yeah, this would make sense. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few “piracy repos” you could add to your package manager. I’ve never thought to look haha.

I mean, you kind of just described two things that are specifically hard to get working properly on Linux in general - MS Office and the Adobe suite. You’re better off using FOSS alternatives, like LibreOffice and Krita or GIMP. Otherwise, you’ll need something like Lutris as a Wine frontend to install Windows apps - and at that point, you might as well just install stock Linux, get qBittorrent going, pirate what you want, and install as needed. Plus, I don’t think I’d trust the security of a modified version of Linux for piracy. That’s just asking to be exploited.

I edited to include the chart I’m talking about (here). It includes a section for Other as well. I’m not saying it’s the whole picture, but it’s the reason for that bump in Unknown which may be increasing the overall percentage depending on when that data in the OP was pulled.

The bump in Unknown is Windows. If I recall correctly, there was a Windows update (in March, I believe) that caused it to stop registering as Windows with the site. A subsequent update fixed the problem. That’s why, if you look at another chart on the site, you’ll see an equivalent increase in Unknown as Windows decreases during that same time period. Then it reverses after the update.

I remember there being a YouTube video of some people that did it in a small town (or neighborhood) and made, essentially, a DIY neighborhood mesh network. I keep looking up stuff, and I’m only finding terms like “relay mesh.” If I find the YouTube video after a reasonable search, I’ll edit.

EDIT: Was the term WISP (Wireless ISP) network? It’s a setting you can do on your router and what the videos I was watching were talking about. The YouTube channel is Freethink, and they cover it being done in Detroit, NYC, and Dylan’s Beach.

I was on µTorrent for a long time on a really old build (like 2.2.1) because it got even more bloated and crappy with every new release, especially over 3.0. I realized, aside from missing new features and stuff, it was probably a security risk being that far behind. I made the switch to qBittorrent and never looked back. It basically took everything I liked about that old style build of µTorrent and brought it into modern times.

I think it’s a bundle, but the bundle costs more than buying the items individually - which kind of defeats the “deal” aspect of a bundle.

You can get NewPipe from F-Droid if you’re on Android. It does PeerTube and even Bandcamp streaming. It also allows you to use YouTube ad-free - and there’s a version with built-in SponsorBlock for skipping those in-video ads/promos.

Bitwarden with a free account here, and it does everything I need it to do (and more than I’d expect for free). Between the app on my phone and browser addons/extensions on PC, I honestly don’t know what else I’d personally need from it (or any other password manager). Plus, it’s open source.

This worked. Thank you! The only extra part is going into YouTube’s App info and toggling Open supported links to off, which you have to do before you’re able to set NewPipe as the default for those links. Then you’re able to follow the directions above and select the 4 verified links that the default YouTube usually uses.

It looks like articles today are saying that Meta is delaying integrating ActivityPub at launch.

That said, I’m not seeing how we get to the last E, extinguish. By its very nature, ActivityPub is decentralized to avoid total control. So even if Meta embraces the technology and wants to monetize it (because capitalism, of course), extending ActivityPub would (hypothetically) be open source - or they would fork it, diverging and making their version closed, and otherwise not function in full with other ActivityPub instances (like with kbin, Lemmy, and Mastodon). Without buying the platform from the developers in full, I don’t see how ActivityPub or the greater Fediverse dies. And I could just be missing something obvious, so if you can explain how we get there, I would really like to hear and understand.

I guess the only way I could see it is if Threads got so popular that people literally stopped using the other apps - but I also don’t see that happening, because anyone already using stuff like Mastodon are using it because Twitter, Facebook, etc, suck ass and they’ve moved away from sites like that.

EDIT: Thanks to the one person that actually replied, I saw I was on the right track at the end, but failed to see the obvious (as I assumed).
