I’m honestly at a loss as to why they are so popular. I barely remember the last time I enjoyed a AAA game. The only notable exceptions would probably be Baldur’s Gate 3 and Dishonored, which both work. Personally I haven’t run into any games that wouldn’t work and as much as I’d love to dismiss those (fucking atrocious) games, I get your point about it preventing popular adoption. Sadly it’s not something Linux can easily fix, as long as companies insist on using windows specific versions of anti cheat software (despite Linux versions of the same stuff existing) just so they can have kernel access to your machine.

  • Have you read Trump’s plan for his next turn? The fucker wants to go through with hefty important taxes on EVERYTHING (that’s essentially putting sanctions on the US lol). Cheap groceries aren’t a good prediction for a Trump term. I’d suggest listening to what he’s saying. There’s more that makes me think that cheap things aren’t around the corner, the fucker has many things he wants to spend for, without any plans for increasing the budget.

  • I agree that it is heartbreaking that the democrats keep pushing candidates no one wants. But no amount of incompetence is a reason to give fascism a try. I don’t live in America, but considering they run this joint, I’d hate for it to become a shitier Russia.

Biden is definitely not fit to do anything him self, but he’s surrounded by good advisers and he actually fucking listens to them. Under his term not nearly as many horrific things happened as under trump. Trump’s an immediate menace to the world order as we know it. I find it really ironic how he claims to be pro American, but actively destroys the reasons people look up to America and let it have so much influence in the first place.

  • GIMP’s layer system is definitely unique, sadly it hasn’t much in common with the selection tool. In that sense, yes, it is unintuitive when migrating from other apps. I’d argue it’s not that complicated, as gimp even highlights the buttons you should be pressing like a mobile game, but it is a complete non sequitur so back on topic…

If you use “select all” in any program to cancel selections, I don’t know what to tell you. Like ok, GIMP is the jankiest of em all if you do that, no contest, but the rest doesn’t behave correctly either if your expectation is that it’ll work just like it did before you did any selecting. The flashing selection line around the whole page should be a pretty strong indicator of something being different.

Honestly, many GUI program, doesn’t even have to be a raster art program; vector art like illustrator, 3D modeling like maya, some music programs, our custom spreadsheet stuff at work, even many file explorers, as far as I remember they all have the ctrl-shift-a shortcut and all would behave quite differently if you used ctrl-a excepting the same result. I’m genuinely at a loss where you’d get the idea to use ctrl-a to cancel a selection. Like I understand the intuition you proposed, but at what point do you just forget everything else you ever did on your computer?

  • Inkscape is a vector art program, it is fundamentally different to any raster art program. Like just download it and try to make just about anything with it, if you never used a vector art program, you’ll be absolutely lost. If you know GIMP, Krita or Photoshop you at least have a basic understanding of the others.

I’m confused. Just tried the selection tool in GIMP and Krita on my PC and sketchbook on my tablet. Works the same way as far as I can tell. Just select, draw in there, copy/paste, ctrl-shift-a to unselect. Moving is more convenient in Krita and Sketchbook, true, but like that can’t be it right? I’m at a loss.

  • Bruh, that’s some fucking expensive ass breakfast. If I’m eating at home, I’ma making a bloody 3 course meal for 15$. My breakfast rarely goes over 2$, that being an unreasonable liter of milk and 2 ham/lettuce/mayo/ketchup sandwiches. Where the milk is by far the most expensive part, as in like 75% of the cost.

  • Sounds like the kind of work my analyst does. I guess he’s technically part of the development team, so sure??? Our 3 client mediators are totally taking over. Also pretty sure we’re the only IT department that even has such a thing. The only other person in our IT branch to be mainly doing calls and such is the top head of IT, every other IT boss still has a lot of technical work around their necks. So at least at my job “close to 100%” is an absolute farcry.

It’s a very similar story at my girlfriend’s work place. Except they don’t even have analysts.

  • As a developer I have to say OH hell nah. If I had to compare the issue to something more layman, I’d compare it to tesla’s self driving. If I have to watch it the entire time it does its thing because there’s an almost certain chance it’ll mess something up CATASTROPHICALLY due to the fact that it literally lacks the ability to understand, than I might as well just do it my self. It rarely saves time and only in dumb cases, that should have been automated in other ways a long time ago.

Not saying it’s not a very handy tool occasionally, just that it can’t come up with solutions to problems on its own, which is like 75% of my work. And it can’t do this due to a fundamental limitation in how learning models work, no amount of training will fix this.

I hate how the US has sexualized every random word or sentence. I’m here telling my American friend how funny it is that German’s call smart phones a “handy”, like “haha silly random word that makes sense tho haha :)”, but no, ma American bud breaks down laughing imagining German’s giving each other hand jobs.

Also the constant stopping during any sentence to go “oh, I know what YOU’RE thinking, get your mind out of the gutter!”. No, I don’t, and now I have the privilege of trying to remember every single word that wa just said and trying to see what inside there could possibly be a penis. This from of “joke” never fails to annoy the shit out of me. Like please can we just continue, or do you really have to recite this copy pasta while I stare like an absolute dunce at you?
