  • Unironically this is the one area where Epic Games is absolutely in the right. They have a 12% royalty on games sold on their platform and a 5% royalty on sales over $1 million for games made with Unreal Engine, with the UE royalty being waived entirely if it’s sold on the Epic Games store. They get a reasonable cut for maintaining one of the most powerful game engines and charge nearly a third of what Valve does for their storefront. If the Epic Store wasn’t so dog shit, they’d be an actual competitor to Valve

  • I am extremely rough with my headphones to the point that I’d always break the cable on wired headsets in a few months. Yeah, wireless isn’t on par with wired headphones in every single way yet, but once I switched to Bluetooth, I was able to keep using my headphones for years at a time before the battery would give out. Add in that I can wander around freely with my headphones, and yeah, the latency is a pretty good tradeoff for my situation

  • They shipped the Wii encryption key along with the emulator. While there’s no established legal precedent that encryption keys are protected by copyright, it’s largely been assumed by those in the industry that they are. It’s also blatantly a measure to circumvent anti piracy measures. If Dolphin required you to go find the Wii encryption key on your own and input it into the emulator, Nintendo would have no grounds to stand on, but they screwed up and risked everything by one of the most infamously anti emulator, litigation happy corporations on earth

  • They can scrape info already. Anyone can set up their own private instance, federate with others, and scrape info from there, and I’d be shocked if Meta wasn’t already doing that. Besides the threads app collecting more data from the people that use the app, they can only collect data that is easily accessible from everyone else regardless of whether threads is federated or not
