I’m probably just overly paranoid, but I don’t trust that Google, in particular, would make the most easily rooted phone (Pixel) without burying something beneath the os that still tracks things.
I’m more excited about something akin to the Fairphone that’s built from the ground up with no relationship to Google.
How do you install an alternate os if the phone isn’t rootable? Everything I’ve tried starts with rooting, and there’s not a way to root my particular phone.
It looks like these are Android phones that have just been rooted and had a different os installed.
I don’t think you understand what Open Source is. Open Source just means that the code isn’t hidden. Even if you’re talking about Free Open Source Software (FOSS), the “free” isn’t a reference to the monetary cost of the software.
I had to stop using Firefox because it’s too ram intensive on all my devices. I get low system memory errors on my Windows machines after it’s been open for a while. My Android devices just lock up when I try to use it. I haven’t tried it on my Linux machines because I just assume it will have the same affect. I don’t understand how people are successfully using it on anything except maybe Apple. I don’t have any Apple devices to try it on.
What color is the sky in your world?
I believe they want to limit troll and bot accounts. I know that if I were hosting a community I would want to vet the members so that I didn’t have to spend all my time dealing with compliants and having to delete comments and ban people.
The only issue with Audile. Is that you have to sign up for AudD. The cheapest option is $5/month. If you use it a lot, then that could be worth it. I would like to find an open source replacement for SoundHound, but since I only use it, maybe 10 times a year, it isn’t worth $60/year.
