  • While I do like dunking on ammosexuals, the reason that the US isn’t at the top of this sport is that the popular pistol shooting sports, in the US, are different. The US shooting sport community is more focused on action shooting styles of competition. Trick shots, speed shooting, target accuracy while moving/on moving targets, in close combat simulations, etc. Also long range rifle marksmanship, and alternative shooting marksmanship like air rifles.

If you look at the history of things like skeet shooting, very long range target shooting, air rifle, and a few other the US does very well.

  • When I was in 6th grade a server at Pizza Hut accidentally poured boiling grease on my friend’s little brother. It was an awful injury that literally scarred him to this day. The investigation into the situation revealed that the server wasn’t provided the correct platform for carrying the deep dish, she was bringing out, because they were short, and busy. So they got a big fucking pay-out. They paid the medical bills, including long term cosmetic work, and therapy. They got a big cash pay-out, not sure how much, but it allowed them to recover from their failed business, pay off their loans, and set up trusts for their kids’ early adult lives. You know, pay for school, or whatever they needed to get a head-start on adult life.

One of the things they were given was a card that was used for internal corporate reasons. It was basically a free Pizza Hut card. The cashier would type the number into the register, and it would clear the bill. They were given free food for “life”, life ended up being about 20 years, ending with yet another decrease in their business. So, at least once a week, their family, and all their kids’ friends, would go to Pizza Hut for a big pizza party. During the summer we would often be given the card to get food when they had to be at their business late, which was often. I can no longer smell the particular fried bread smell of their pan pizzas without feeling a little nauseated. Sooo much pizza hut. Some times the local pizzeria would give us a few pies in exchange for letting them order things from PH not on their menu, like wings, so we could get some real pizza about once a week out of it.

  • IIRC one saw him up there scoping around, but thought it may be SS, as their plans weren’t well communicated to the lowest ranks, the cops on the ground. However, when other people described him one cop went up there. He started shooting immediately afterward. So he may have notified them ASAP, like on his radio, but it was too late. Crooks spot got blown and it forced him to act.

Or so this seems to be the narrative at this early point

  • Also, a local police officer was alerted to him. The cop then went up there, where he says Crooks pointed his rifle at him and he retreated to get help. So this added a bunch of stress and dramatically cut the time frame to take his shot. I think this may have played into the miss, assuming what the cop was reported saying, is what happened

  • is this something that is being passed around with variations over time? If no, it isn’t a meme, it is just a screenshot of a joke. However, if this was based on something and is a variation of it, or something that has seen the spread and change aspect, then it would be.

Is this some new cultural element, or system of behavior, that is being passed along? If yes, then it is. If no, then it is just a screenshot of a joke.

This is just a screenshot of a joke.

  • Evidence shows that arguments are really only conducive to changing opinions when the person has a set of primers to find the person they disagree with otherwise agreeable. They refer to it as being in alignment with socio-epistemic conditions. Basically, people within a group identity can change opinions with others in the group, as long as the difference in opinion is not one that would be diametrically opposed to their group’s underlying identity. So, arguments between people from two different groups, like left v right, don’t really change minds towards the group they do not identify with. Those watching the debate will agree with the people who are in the same socio-epistemic group. This arguably makes public debate a bad thing. This is because those third party on-lookers will side with the person in the debate they most identify with for reasons outside of the debate. So you are simply platforming the person you disagree with, and possibly exposing people more in alignment with them, to an argument for a more extreme version of their position, rather than exposing them to a counter-opinion argument, to be considered.

Here is a good starting point on this subject, it links to a number of supporting papers early in the paper.
