In the early years, I learned a lot of new things. The late 90’s had so much hope for the web and learning new things. I remember falling I to rabbit holes a lot more often back then because it wasn’t about video essays and persuasive videos.

I miss all of those old text based chatting and the friends I made on Yahoo local chat rooms. Somedays I wish the social media sites run by algorithms didn’t surpass those old forums and chat rooms.

The problem started when they went from a basic preroll ad, to unskippable and then the large amount of mid-roll ads to push people into buying premium just as they increased the price.

It’s really all about having a way to get past encryption so they can spy on everyone indiscriminately. It’s pushed that it’s to save kids and unmask pedos, but the people in charge know the pedophiles are their rich donors.

It’s about controlling opposition and making sure the wealthy can stay on top. Imagine if no small business can hide their information from their competitors.

Sadly Bazzite doesn’t work well with Nvidia. But that would have been my choice.

Thanks for the info. I’ve noticed that having an Nvidia GPU may be my downfall. I would hate to have to switch my 3080 for my son’s 6800XT or even have to buy another GPU When I need to switch.

I have spent over 30 years doing IT work, so figuring out another OS won’t be too hard since I’ve worked through almost everything starting in the 90’s.

Sorry I’m late, but I would say that that case means a system should have rules to define when and where the majority of the files are at. Or at least a defined way to declare which system is one-way, and which is two-way.

The old Google Calendar system had that flag, so I find it strange that Apple wouldn’t, unless they really want to push the iCloud data Subscription model.

In the US, there are multiple Supreme Court precedent cases that force profit-maximizing. Shareholders can sue the CEO and board to maximize profit seeking.

So yes, increasing shareholder value is enshrined in US law. Only private corporations can get around that rule. Also, a corporation cannot be forced to break the law to maximize profits, that’s just something most CEO’s are willing to do for fun.

I think the issue comes that it only syncs messages one way and doesn’t sync on deletions. Apple should have messages that are removed from all devices when removed from the phone, but it didn’t remove messages when deleted.

Sure the guy is a moron for being a cheater and scumbag, but Apple should remove deleted messages. That’s a privacy problem with Apple’s sync. I don’t use Apple devices due to other Apple crap, but setting up iCloud sync should have a warning when items won’t be deleted and only will be downloaded to devices.

Yep, I will switch to Linux before I get another OS from Microsoft. Once 10 goes away, I jump onto a Linux distribution and use Proton.

I was hoping for a Steam Created distribution to come out, but I’ve been waiting for that for years. I’m just too lazy to switch over before I have to.

As much as I want “Jarvis” OS system, I really don’t want the version made by Microsoft, Google, or, Apple.

I want to be able to talk with my AI PC, but I want secure AI that’s just for me and won’t steal all my data for any Corporations to browse.

They just want private Corporate Gestapo. Which is totally better than Government run Gestapo. Private “Corporations” always make the right choices.

I really wish it was this easy to get the meds I actually need. I’ve been dealing with Chronic Pain for over 20 years now and still can’t get enough meds to function as a normal person.

I gave my Index to my son who has the time and physicality to use it. I’m just too old for action gaming now.

I would have loved it if I was 30 years younger. I can do more from a chair with my desktop PC than an Apple Vision Pro can. It’s just another Apple Con.

My guess is that repair costs are higher because they have to be sent out for expensive repairs because the car software is locked down so they cannot repair them in-house.

That’s what the future is coming to with cars. No more fixing with your own parts at home.

Is there shared targeting data with teammates? I remember lining up targets for the big artillery teammates as a scout in the older games.

I loved being useful as a fast scout beyond the rush to kill scouts in other games.

I worked in a semiconductor plant. There isn’t any special skill to it. You have a list that you do and nowadays the robots actually do all the difficult work.

In my time, you had to check and calculate by hand the offsets for the lithography machines. Now with it being done in self-contained robots because of the radiation x-ray process, a person just manages the robots.

Also, why isn’t the new Intel plant being built having the same issues with qualified workers?

I personally think it’s stupid to build a high water using plant in the middle of a desert, when the area hasn’t ever monitored the water table.

I kind of miss those old Usenet days. Being 16 and waiting most of the night for a picture to load was great.

Back when I made sure to download the progressive JPEG, because loading single line top to bottom was hell. Unless there was a chance that the phone would be picked up, then I wanted regular JPEG, because then when I lost connection I still would have most of a picture.
