  • Can vouch for Viture being much more open source friendly, there’s a redditor making a plugin for the steamdeck to make it work far better with the Viture’s, and Viture has apparently given them access to some things that Xreal has refused.

Their openness is what won me over for them over other AR glasses. Not only are the willing to help what’s effectively a competing software developer, it’s also incredibly helpful when the product is so niche, don’t have to worry about a company going out of business and your device suddenly becoming a paper weight.

  • Okay but that has no relevance at all to what the comment you were replying to was about. Companies contracted by the government and DOD specifically to create rockets are guaranteed to be covered by ITAR. Meaning open sourcing them would be impossible, regardless of the first amendment or anything else.

There’s a massive massive difference between the software for a DOD contracted rocket like SpaceX makes, and hobbyist rocketry.

  • While courts have ruled source code is first amendment protected. Your statement is still very very wrong. Just because it’s first amendment protected doesn’t mean it can’t be classified normally or made illegal to leak because of ITAR.

But go leak some of the source code from XKeyscore or a schematic of a pair of GPNVG if you’d like to test our code classification and ITAR systems.

  • This is just blatantly false, if an organization is committing crimes or doing something the government dislikes then the government will sanction it, like it has done with almost every Russian Oligarch’s business, or front businesses for terrorist groups.

I’m pretty sure the whole point of banning TikTok is that the government is alleging that TikTok has engaged/can be forced to engage in abusive or illegal practices.

  • TLDR: Mcdonalds and an ice cream machine company are up to some scummy shit to fuck over franchises and customers for more profits.

TLDW: Mcdonalds and the company that makes almost all fast food ice cream machines, Taylor, have had a long time partnership.

Through this partnership, Mcdonalds franchises are only allowed to buy a singular type of Taylor machine. All of Taylor’s machines that other chains use work just fine, but the ones Mcdonalds is forced to use through the partnership are basically designed to be shitty. They break all the time, and when it breaks down, the error code doesn’t even tell the employees what’s wrong, even if it’s something simple the employee could fix themselves. It forces the Mcdonalds franchises to get a repair technician from Taylor making them pay assloads of money on repair costs, and these repairs of Mcdonalds’ machines account for a massive amount of Taylor’s revenue.

Mcdonalds corporate is hurt none in this process, only the franchises, so Mcdonalds Corporate and Taylor stay buddy buddy. Some other company made a third party addition for the Taylor machines that puts out proper error codes that allow employees to fix minor issues on the fly, Mcdonalds has banned their franchises from using these for “safety issues”.

I would still suggest watching the video in your spare time though, it’s a really fascinating case study of how companies collude to fuck over customers and even their own lesser partners.
