Call me crazy, but I loved mine (near the end). No crease, could still multitask fine. The fact it folded shut kept me from opening and doom scrolling as much. Could throw a video on one screen and “tent” the phone easily.
But yeah, the software took awhile to get even “okay” out the gate and that really hurt the user experience. I felt I was always wrestling with mine over something for the first 6mos even.
I worked for a company that refused to use TypeScript because it “slowed devs down”. It was…a laughable period in my life.
Seems weird…but I have totally done two different job interviews where nobody has their camera on.

The last time I flew they did this, but there was a huge sign that said photos are immediately deleted after verification…is this not true?
At my org the security is so heavy that it’s a multi-step, multi-tier fix (meaning the one Helpdesk person has to escalate, the first tier that gets it has one password but not the other, that has to go to second tier, etc.)
They announced weekend hours all weekend on Friday and given we’re talking tens of thousands of potentially impacted systems, my guess is it absolutely won’t be done by Monday. That doesn’t necessarily mean business is dead in the water, but it’s definitely more chaotic and slow moving.
Do you have astigmatism? I’m beginning to realize this might be why it’s uncomfortable for me.
But probably not immediately, probably slowly over time as contracts come due.
I prefer light mode because dark mode gives me a raging headache in under 10 minutes, not enough contrast or something, I’m not sure. It’s bad enough that if I’m pairing with someone and they use dark mode I’ve gotta frequently look away or do something like a shared follow mode where I use a light theme on my end - it sucks.
And maybe the science is old now, but in HS I did a report on eye strain and light backgrounds are typically better across the board. But who knows now.
I hadn’t really heard of the TPU chips until a couple weeks ago when my boss told me about how he uses USB versions for at-home ML processing of his closed network camera feeds. At first I thought he was using NVIDIA GPUs in some sort of desktop unit and just burning energy…but I looked the USB things up and they’re wildly efficient and he says they work just fine for his applications. I was impressed.
As a buzzword or whatever this is leagues worse than “agile”, which I already loathed the overuse/integration of.
Rustdesk is great. I’ve also used AnyDesk.
Recently I’ve used Parsec on a couple systems and it’s zippy, but I can’t get keyboard shortcuts to work for some reason.
I wonder if it’s possible that they’re paid money by Google to not support Firefox?
I agree with the first part of your comment, but laundromats are absolutely a high profit business.
source: family friend owns a bunch of them, every single one was net profitable inside of a few months and they are now basically pure profit month over month. They make more money than I ever have from a single software development job, even at my peak, and they largely just farm maintenance out and pay some labor.
$350k TC seems low for a job of that magnitude at Google.
