Just made the switch to Nobara Linux on my desktop and ill probably go with Mint on my ancient laptop tomorrow. My only hang up was games but it seems like compatibility is a lot better nowadays so hopefully I can fully switch over. Same for windows only programs and Wine.

Can’t go wrong with a used T series from Ebay that’s a couple years old. A quick search shows that you can get something like this for 320USD from a reputable seller:

8GB is too little RAM these days otherwise I would also recommend the X13 model but those start at like 600USD for the 16GB models.

They can just phrase it a little differently and argue semantics in front of a bunch of 70 year olds who don’t know what a browser is in a hearing or two. Maybe a couple campaign contributions through completely legal channels and that’s that. Anti trust enforcement has been falling in the US for decades.
I get the same as the main post. Either way the point still stands. I had someone correct me with a misconception about something because he googled it and thats what it said in the answer box. It’s getting increasingly difficult to rely on search results especially when google synthesizes them into questions and answers with little context

Seconding this one. I used to use Swiftkey but moved to this because it doesn’t have suggestions for words.
It’s neither instance’s or the recent event’s fault. It’s been that way for a while now and is just a Lemmy problem that is being worked on. It has improved since the last month though so you’re probably seeing the older posts that didn’t replicate at the time. It was basically giving up too quickly when looking for posts from other instances which caused a lot of mismatch between what local communities showed and what it looked like on federated instances.

Yup I saw elsewhere that the compromised admin account was removed.
I’m not seeing anything different with lemmy.world on my end. Can anyone else confirm what OP is seeing?

The Borderlands series because I replay with each character/class and more specifically Borderlands 2 because it has an absurd amount of content.
I don’t see why they would bother with the fediverse as it exists to be honest. To me it seems like a liability from their point of view. Not sure if they’ve spoken more about this but Facebook getting in more shit by having their users exposed to stuff that they don’t explicitly control doesn’t seem like something they’d want.
That being said, I feel like defederating with them if needed is a solid idea but their sheer size may make that decision difficult for instances that are looking to grow given that they’ve already amassed twice the accounts of the Lemmy fediverse in a few hours. Now not all growth is good growth like you’ve mentioned but there’s no partial defederation so either you leech on some of their userbase or you don’t.
I see some places going for growth if that’s an option which may not necessarily be a bad choice (unless they impose strict rules to follow if you want to federate with them) given that facebook has the capital to bury us with if they choose to so our compliance probably won’t have a very big impact on how things play out in the long run.
Sure, but I don’t think it has to be a subscription nag. They’re free to monetize as they wish but I don’t have to use it either when non-subscription alternatives exist.
I set this up and like the UI but it does that stuff where it says things like “Hey you have duplicates do you want to remove them? Oops sorry you gotta pay for that” and “Hey we noticed you’re using a adblocker”. Everything has to be a subscription service these days.
