Is there any solution here that doesn’t suck? Sexual abuse sucks, removing indigenous children from their family sucks too. I can’t see the harm in at least getting some statistics/basic facts on the issue as a starting point.

The problem is we already know what the problem is but a Royal Commission will just stall any progress for a few years only for whatever government is in power to consider the recommendations or take them to the next election. It’s just a political move

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians Jacinta Nampijinpa Price have repeatedly called for a royal commission.

“This prime minister doesn’t see it as a priority for this parliament to call for a royal commission to understand what is happening, to have such a significant prevalence of child sexual abuse within Indigenous communities,” he said.

"These calls for a royal commission into the sexual abuse of Aboriginal children have been made without one shred of real evidence being presented.

The controversial intervention was launched by the Howard government in 2007, in response to media reporting and a public inquiry looking into child sexual abuse.

In a statement, the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory argued there have been enough inquiries into the situation facing young people in Indigenous communities.

“On the other hand, political grandstanding by those who actively campaigned against Aboriginal communities having a voice on matters that concern us can only be divisive and destructive.”

This is what they do, remember when they claimed there was a case in Alice Springs and then did not report anything to the police when they asked about it…

Howard’s Northern Territory Intervention was based on the same idea. It’s nothing new and seems to just be the go to strategy for conservatives. It falls into the wider spectrum of racist dog whistling.
