Friendly reminder that if you have a butcher nearby, you should give them a go instead. Their prices are usually on par with colesworth (although sometimes they can be a little bit more expensive since they can’t really afford to cut their prices to keep up with competition). Also especially if they’re a little independent one, you can be fairly confident your money goes to a good place rather than giving colesworth more money to add to their billions in profits

Also, since they sell meat and very little else, they naturally have a much larger range including heaps of more niche things, and quality is usually better in certain things than the supermarkets. Plus you can buy yourself a fresh Kiev, rather than that processed bullshit you get at supermarkets!

Most small butchers have better quality cuts of meat and sausages than at the Colesworth meat departments, plus they’ve decided to cut costs with packaging, so make sure you check every part of the plastic tubs of chicken, because they can break just by the air moving past them.

Edit: Also, a few of the meat groups have their own shops where you can go and get some good cuts of meat and support the farmers whilst cutting the big ones out.

Echoing those who are saying try your local butcher. There used to be three butchers local to me and now there’s none. Colesworth squeezed them out. I go to a butcher near my work and it’s so worth it. The chicken is beautiful and not plumped with water to add weight. You cook up mince and don’t get a pan full of water. You get the meat that you see, not all the shitty bits hidden underneath one good piece in the pack or behind the stickers they plaster the pack with. Colesworth meat may be cheaper but are you really getting true value?

Proper butchers are the best. And even when colesworth works out cheaper for the “same” amount of something, Coles make over $1bn in profit each year, and woolies make almost 2. There’s a reason for that

When you let industries monopolise, this is what you get. Simple solution, breakup colesworths market dominance.
